Tips For Protecting Your Natural Stone During the Holidays

We all know with the holidays around the corner your home will see more traffic than normal. This time of the year is spent busy, hosting friends and family and other spontaneous visits from guests you don’t have the chance to see as often enough through the year. If you have natural stone surfaces in your Houston home, such as marble or granite countertops, slate floors, or any other stone surfaces, seeing your home filled with guests indulging in food and drink may become a source of anxiety for you! The team at Modern Stone wants you to put your anxieties to the side, and get the most out of your holiday season!

This is why we have put together some tips below to help you keep your natural stone looking as good as new:

Before Your Holiday Guests Arrive:

-If your natural stone surfaces are due for a fresh layer of sealant, then it is best to take care of this before hosting a party with guests in your home. Having a proper seal is your best defence to avoid damages from spills or moisture from footwear.

-Premix and fill a spray bottle with a mild, safe for stone, detergent and store it in an easy to access area in your home. Be sure to include a soft cloth for cleaning and drying. This will allow you to catch spills faster and avoid stains.

While Your Guests Are Around:

-Make sure you before guests arrive that you plac plenty of coasters at all of the gathering areas and eating surfaces in your home. Be sure to verbally encourage your guests to use them in case they don’t see them.

-If you happen to notice a spill, gently blot them and reach for your premixed spray bottle to reduce the chances of your spill staining the stone surface.
